Privacy policy

This policy explains what data Site Advice (www.siteadvice.be, also reachable via its alias sitecheck.be) processes, why, on what legal basis, who it's shared with, and what your rights are. It is written to align with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Who is responsible (controller)

The data controller is EUREGIO.NET AG, Wirtzfeld, Zur Holzwarche 27, B-4761 Büllingen, Belgium (enterprise number KBO/BCE 0455.638.890). For privacy questions, email [email protected]. Full operator details are in the legal notice.

The short version

Site Advice is a primarily static, content-only website with two interactive features: a contact form and an optional free-ebook request. We use no analytics, advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies, and load no third-party analytics or advertising scripts — nothing follows you across other websites, and we don't sell data or build advertising profiles. We do process a minimal amount of data to run and protect the site, explained below, and we disclose the few service providers involved.

Cookies and on-device storage

We set no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. Our spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile, below) runs without pre-clearance, so it sets no clearance cookie on this site. Because the site is served through Cloudflare, Cloudflare may set its own strictly necessary security cookies (such as a bot-management cookie) to operate and protect the site; these aren't used for analytics or advertising.

The one thing we store on your device is your light/dark theme choice, kept in your browser's localStorage. It's a strictly functional preference: it stays on your device, is never sent to us, and isn't used to identify or track you. Clear it any time via your browser settings.

Server log

Shared hosting gives us no usable access log, so we keep our own minimal, first-party, cookieless log of page requests. For each page view we record the date and time, the page path, the HTTP status, the referring page, the browser's user-agent string, and a truncated IP address — the last octet of an IPv4 address is zeroed (e.g. 203.0.113.123 → 203.0.113.0), and IPv6 addresses are truncated to their network prefix (/48).

Truncation substantially reduces precision, but because a log line may still be indirectly identifiable when combined with its timestamp and other request details, we treat the log as personal data. We use it only to understand which pages are useful and to spot broken links and errors; it sets nothing on your device, is never shared or sold, and isn't combined with any other data. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site. Monthly log files are automatically deleted after 90 days.

Spam and abuse protection

The contact and ebook forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell legitimate visitors from automated abuse. When Turnstile runs, Cloudflare processes technical signals such as your IP address, browser/user-agent, TLS characteristics, the Turnstile site key, and the originating website. Cloudflare acts as our processor when protecting the forms, but also states that it processes some signals as an independent controller to improve Turnstile's bot-detection. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in protecting the site and its forms against spam and automated abuse. Turnstile is not used for advertising or visitor analytics.

Hosting and content delivery

Site Advice is operated and hosted directly by EUREGIO.NET AG on infrastructure under its control; a data-center/network provider necessarily processes request data (including IP addresses) to deliver the site, as our processor. The site is also fronted by Cloudflare as a content-delivery and security layer, which processes request data on our behalf to serve and protect the site.

The contact form

When you use the contact form, we process the name, email address and message you submit, only to read and reply to your inquiry. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in communicating with people who contact us; where your inquiry concerns a possible service or contract, processing may instead be necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract. Messages are delivered by email through our mail provider (SMTP2GO) and stored in our normal email system. We keep correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request and any reasonable follow-up — and no longer than necessary for contractual documentation or the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims — then delete it. We don't use these details for marketing or add you to any mailing list. A hidden "honeypot" field and a timing check help block spam; neither tracks you nor stores anything on your device.

The free ebook

If you request the free ebook, we use double opt-in: you enter your address, we email a confirmation link, and we only complete the request once you click it.

• We process your email address and confirmation/download status to deliver the ebook, on the basis of your consent.
• Separately, we process a truncated IP prefix and request timestamps to rate-limit abuse, on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the service.

We use the address solely to send your download link and, if you ask again, to re-send it — no newsletter, no marketing. We do not sell it or disclose it for advertising; it's disclosed only to the provider needed to deliver the email (currently SMTP2GO). We record whether the confirmation link was used and whether a download link was issued; we use no tracking pixels and don't monitor whether an email was opened. Every ebook email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Unconfirmed requests are deleted automatically within 48 hours; a confirmed record is kept so your download link keeps working (90 days) and so you can request it again, and is removed when you unsubscribe.

International transfers

Our email provider SMTP2GO processes our messages in its Amsterdam (EU) data center, within the EEA. Our spam-protection and content-delivery provider Cloudflare may process data outside the EEA; where it does, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards — the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses under Cloudflare's data-processing agreement.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances and the applicable legal basis, you may have the right to access and correct your personal data, request its deletion or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and receive data you provided in a portable format. Where processing is based on your consent (currently the ebook-delivery request), you can withdraw that consent at any time; withdrawal doesn't affect the lawfulness of processing done before it. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority — in Belgium, the Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit / Autorité de protection des données (gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).
